Known as “Queen of the Suburbs” in the 20th Century for characteristics that endure; a blend of green and leafy suburban area, alongside a well established retail and commercial centre.
Many parts of Ealing retain a village feel, quite different to that of the City just a few minutes of travel away via plentiful transport links. The green spaces and open parks of Ealing are well renowned, to name just a few; Ealing Common, Walpole Park, Montpelier Park and Pitshanger Park.
Not just blessed by greenery, though, Ealing has a fully developed economy, and offers the modern amenities and retail opportunities, as well as pubs and restaurants that make it a desirable place to live for a wide demographic but especially suited to family life.
Ealing Broadway has developed a reputation for great shopping, food and more with the shopping centre. Pitshanger Lane has also won the Best High Street in the UK for the last couple of years, not only that but Ealing is peppered with local community shops, fishmongers, green grocers and butchers. Dickens Yard plays host to Farmer’s Markets with plenty of culinary seasonal delights year round.
Ealing is host to the Ealing Jazz Festival, which has been running annually for over 30 years in Walpole Park, and maintains a legacy for being one of the most iconic community festivals in the UK. In fact, festival season in Ealing includes a beer festival, a blues festival, a comedy festival and a carnival – a real summer of treats!
Redevelopment in the area as well, with Dickens Yard and the Apex being built and now with the Filmworks Cinema being redeveloped promising a local hub for local people.
Schools
At both the primary and secondary levels Ealing is very well equipped for education, with 91 state run schools and nurseries, as well as additional independent schools. Some of the more popular primary schools are Little Ealing and North Ealing, but there is also a choice of several Catholic Schools; Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School, St Benedict’s, St Gregory’s and more.
Notable secondary schools include Drayton Manor High School and The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School.
Transport
By plane, train or auto-mobile, Ealing boasts great transport links both to central London and wider afield. Ealing is connected by four Tube stations, Ealing Broadway, Ealing Common, North Ealing and South Ealing; allowing access to Central, District, Piccadilly lines.
By rail, Paddington is not much more than 10 minutes away, whilst the Heathrow Connect service will get you to Heathrow Airport in less than half an hour.
Ealing is also located within approximately 10 miles of the M25, so travelling by car remains a practical option, and Heathrow is similarly accessible for drivers within 20 minutes.
Ealing is continuing to get better too, with redevelopment in key areas such as Dickens Yard and the Apex, and Ealing Filmworks being reinstituted and redeveloped as a promising hub for local people and visitors.
